1 Hour Wonder/Sonofa Gunofa Run Results

Here we go!
Something a little more official looking
since it's not being done on my phone!

Huge thanks as always to Karine! All the little detail items,
registration, and time keeping is under control with her at the helm.
Jack Kelly hung out at the railroad tracks all day,
directing runners and trains, in the right direction.
Colin Busby did some course sweeping throughout the day,
along with running back and forth to volunteers.
Rob Teale and his newphews were awesome at the look off,
making sure folks didn't take a wrong step there.
And Andrew (the hostel manager) ran the 4.5km race and then
was the BBQ chef all day long until 7pm.
Thank you all very much!!

Salomon once again provided an abundance of prizes!
Shoes, packs, hats, shirts, buffs, etc, etc!
Thank you again for all the support!

It was an interesting race day and a very fun race day for us
...that's for sure!
The social aspect between laps was a great addition
as runners got to mingle and chit chat about whatever.
Listening to folks talk about doing their longest trail run ever,
what their strategy was for the day,
and wondering if and when the time limit would be lowered to 45 minutes
was certainly fun to listen to.
I like playing some little mind games every now and then :)

Of the 3 runners in the 4.5km race,
I had my money on the 2nd place finisher.
I was happily shocked to hear, and then see,
Andrew Woods charging hard to the finish line
with no one in sight.
Way to go Andrew.
Short shorts really do work!

For the "1 Hour Wonder" format,
the time limit would not be lowered.
The distance was extended a bit on lap 8
since we moved the start line further down the hill
as per Mr. Heggie's suggestion.
Lap 9 added a surprise 'out-and-back' section that added 500m to the loop,
making it an even 5.06kms.
The remaining 6 runners were informed
(with only seconds to spare before lap 10 started)
that lap 10 would be an all out war.
First one to the line is the winner.
Plain and simple.
Ben Miller crushed everyone with a 27:01 final lap (he also got stopped by the train for 15 seconds)!

Of everything that I saw on Saturday, the most interesting thing to me
was the fact that not one person timed out.
All but 6 men found an excuse to refuse to continue.
(Note: this is all typed in good fun :)

Honourable mention:
Tyler Heggie. Whoop whoop!!
Wow! What an inspirational 12 year!!
Hangin' in there with big people for 9 laps.
He fit right in with everyone being the little social dude he is!
Very impressive running Tyler!

Lastly, a thank you is owed to Danny Nolan for donating a pair of Ray Ban sunglasses for another volunteer draw prize!
He did this for the Wascally Wabbit as well, where Colin Busby took home some sweet Oakleys!
Thanks Danny!
And the lucky volunteer winner is....
Rob Teale!! Yahoo!

Wascally Wabbit IV Results

What a super day. So many “that was my longest run EVER” comments were heard throughout the day. From first time trail runners, to PB’s left right and centre, and to people just digging deeper than ever to get things done. This was a perfect example of what we love to see. The “from out of nowhere” runs that people had today was something very special to witness. Thank you all for inspiring more people than you know.

Thank you so much to Salomon for all the great prizes. Thank you so much to all of the super volunteers that spent a huge chunk of their day out on the trails and at the start/finish area. Karine, Lori, Ben, Tania, Chad, Brennon, Keegan, Colin, Steve, Rob…you all were awesome to have on the course. I owe you all a big drink…and free entries into the next race! J
Here are the results! Hopefully there’s no typos, but we are tired, so we have an excuse! Hope to see you all on the trails again sometime soon!
